Charles Raether is Managing Partner of AmLaw Group, a law firm based outside of Washington, D.C. focused on cross-border transactions and immigration matters with stakeholders primarily from CIS markets—Russia, Kazakhstan, and other markets of the former Soviet Union.
Mr. Raether has a diverse career in business, law and government. He began his legal career at Hunton & Williams and thereafter moved to the Washington, D.C. office of Kirkland & Ellis. At Kirkland & Ellis, Mr. Raether worked in the private equity and venture capital practice group, providing both investor and company representation on various private equity and venture capital transactions. Mr. Raether subsequently moved to the U.S. Department of Commerce where he worked in the department responsible for expanding and promoting U.S. commercial interests and activities in the CIS markets. As a result, he has extensive contacts at relevant USG agencies, including the Department of Commerce, OPIC, Ex-Im Bank, USTDA, USTR, and others. Most recently, Mr. Raether was the General Director for Kazakhstan of Jones Lang LaSalle, the global commercial real estate consultancy. Mr. Raether received his J.D. from Georgetown University and studied at Moscow State University. He is fluent in Russian.
